I came across this great article about teaching your toddler to read.Toddler Reading

Check out our Gingerbread Man interactive display!

Fill out a Gingerbread Man and tell us about the books you’ve read, or your kids have read, or books that you’ve read to your kids!  Color in the hearts, 1 heart for a ‘eh’ book, two for a ‘good’ book and three hearts for an ‘amazing’ book!  Don’t forget the title and author!  And give us a one sentence recommendation!  This display is located on the end of the chapter book shelves, by the computers in the children’s area!

Pajama Storytime

Recently, in the suggestion box, we’ve found several requests for a Pajama Storytime .  Pajama Storytime is a storytime that runs in the evening so that working parents can attend.  These storytimes tend to have a wider age range and are run a bit more loosely than our regular storytimes, but they are still a lot of fun, and include all the elements of our regular storytimes, including sensory activities and crafts.  We are definitely considering adding some evening storytimes, but we would like to get some more feedback.  You can help!  Please take this brief survey and let us know what you think!

Horton Hears a Who and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish

This is our last little party for the good doctor himself, Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.  The last two parties, celebrating the Cat in the Hat and the Lorax were a smashing success.  There were lots of crafts and snacks, but my favorite part?  Watching the “old” videos!  You know, the ones that were on tv when we were little!  It is so much fun to say to your kids “I saw that exact show when I was your age!”  Just this weekend, I watched the original Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  It’s still my favorite Christmas cartoon ever!  Our program is on December 8 from 6-8 pm,  so a little early for the Grinch, but just perfect to hear about Horton, and talk colors and numbers and non-sensical rhymes with One Fish Two Fish.  Of course there will be story-themed snacks and activities.  Make sure you join us as we say farewell to Dr. Seuss, for now.  Next up in the New Year?  Lots of celebrations of Disney!  Stay tuned!
